"Where quality and compliance count"

Health & safety inspections

Health and Safety Assessments are an important part of a company’s safety policy. Health and safety risk assessments are a legal requirement for employers in the UK, primarily under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.

Our Health and Safety Assessment Criteria

These regulations mandate that employers assess risks to their employees' health and safety arising from their work activities. This includes identifying potential hazards, evaluating the associated risks, and implementing control measures to mitigate those risks. Employers with five or more employees must also record the significant findings of these risk assessments in writing.

Legal Framework:
The foundation for health and safety risk assessments is laid by the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and further detailed in the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
Employer's Duty:
Employers have a legal duty to protect their employees from harm, and this includes assessing risks to their health and safety.
What to Assess:
Employers need to identify hazards, assess the likelihood and severity of potential harm, and implement control measures to reduce risks.
Recording Requirements:
If an employer has five or more employees, they must record the significant findings of their risk assessments.
Beyond Employees:
The assessment should also consider risks to other people (e.g., visitors, contractors) who may be affected by the employer's work activities.
Review and Updates:
Risk assessments are not one-time events. They should be reviewed regularly and updated when there are changes in work processes, equipment, or circumstances.
Competent Advice:
Employers can seek help from qualified health and safety advisors or use templates to guide their assessments.
Other Relevant Regulations:
The Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Regulations 1992, for example, require specific risk assessments for workstations involving display screen equipment.
